Friday night drinking..

What is more needed on a Friday night than an uplifting, fresh and - horrible word - tasty bottle? So, with some pasta, this gloriously raspberry-scented Barbera d'Alba by Boglietti (Wine Society £11.50). The wine has plenty of bite, and yet it is not overpowering or strong. This is classic Northern Italian wine, with deep colour, ripe tannins, freshening acidity, and just great with food. Boglietti is also a Barolo producer, though only recently has he started going solo and not selling to other producers. He is 'modern'  in style, and personally i prefer that, as I can find old-school Barolos just a bit tight and tannic. And a funky label too! Cheers John.
