Out today for a relatively steady 4.5 miles, in what is remarkably balmy weather for this time of year.
Running for me is a real pleasure when you do not have a deadline at the other end - you get back when you want, and there is plenty of time. When you feel hemmed in, half an hour only to complete a fast 30 minuter, somehow you just can't really enjoy it.
So, Wednesday was a real joy. 8 miles over the boggy hills of Squabb's Wood, scaring a few dog walkers and getting muddy as you like, and take as much time as you like. Two fantastic days of Christmas behind us, the triumph of the turkey (I thank you..take a small bow..), the wines and the games. Miles of smiles, as they say. This was my time, my chance to get back to simplicity - and of course work off a few Christmas calories, which will really not start off my marathon campaign well. 18 weeks to London...10lbs to lose..
As you may imagine, the quantity of wine will not help - though I must mention numerous bottles of Pol Roger and Veuve Clicquot, a gorgeous Ridge Lytton Springs Zinfandel 2003, a highly pleasing and ripe Ch. Batailley 2003, and a chunky Smith Woodhouse 1994. There were other delights, but these stick in the mind.
Pip Pip..
And a Happy New Year to you all!
